Kasi Life

Where is the dust?

eKasi , the heart of Soweto where I was born and bred.A symbolic place with an interesting background which continues to breed greatness. Not only do we share a township with influential people but the people of iKasi are truly rare.

We all are aware of the happenings during Apartheid which made Soweto a true Kasi. I always wonder why a lot of people say that they grew up in the 'dusty streets of Soweto' because I'm very sure that where I grew up the streets have never been dusty. You can never go wrong with having an experience in a Kasi because of its diversity , everyone knows that Soweto is always a place to be at. This clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOES5B2DXZo shows how even old still enjoy themselves in the township without having to worry about age or status.

In most cases when people who are told about Kasi lifestyle always think about robbery,2 fingers, nyaope and a dodgy life but what isn't being told about iKasi is that it's a place where morals and values are being instilled anyway, it's only in a Kasi whereby you'll experience the real meaning of the African Proverb 'it takes a village to raise a child'..https://www.tyi.co.za/news/local/kasi-life-come-and-walk-a-day-in-my-tekkies/ shows a broader view of what really happens in Soweto and a bit of background information.

Kota being 'staple food' in ekasi has been tarnished or rather being put on hold due to the listeriosis outbreak, how sad it is to see what makes a true kasi fall down the drain.

Public Relations opportunities for this # is that it is able to influence and to grow people through the work they will discover and how they will be able to share experiences which they have had with the being in a Kasi and discovering how they do things. This will bring about change of mentality and let people understand that Soweto is the place to.Visiting places such as Vilakazi street will basically give a clearer overview of ikasi lifestyle. The challenges that would be faced is to convince people about safety and reliably of the hood and how people will react once they get to iKasi.

Social media platforms should be used to facilitate these actions based on the target audience. However other mediums may be utilized to spread out the word and to make it accessible and open all people who may be interested and those that will be influenced by the movement.

  2. Your blog post is very educational specially for people who have never been to Soweto ekasi and never heard of our history, where things happen and you get to experience things the hard way. This post I have learned from as Soweto is a beautiful kasi that also has its scandals like theft ,partying till late and other influential things that can take away your focus.
